B is for Blue

She watched his
sinewy body flow through the reeds in the river. He seemed to fly through the water, moving so
effortlessly. Gliding in and out of the
water lilies, leaping over the fallen logs and finally darting to her side with
a wry smile on his full pouty lips. His skin glistened as the sun kissed him in the water. She
enjoyed watching his athleticism, so smooth and graceful.
Together they
danced. Swaying gently, intimately,
knowingly. Their movements in harmonious synchronicity. The space between their
bodies growing ever closer, ever so much more than just a dance. They began to claim one another, as they had
year after year. They belonged to one
another.
They danced from
the deep to the shallow, their river dance.
They danced from the reeds to the rocks.
Eyes only belonging to one another, they moved to the bed. The bed they had made together.
A treble hook
flashed across the sky, plummeting into the shallow waters, biting deeply into
his flesh. Like a grapple hook, jerking
him from the dance, away from her eyes, and into the boat.

Your story took me on a journey and then the ending really startled me. But a great read and nicely written.
ReplyDeleteSuch a sad tale. Maybe they'll meet again in the giant fish market in the sky.
