I have joined the group "Blogging from A to Z" . This is a a month long challenge to write a short story everyday and each day corresponding to the letter of the alphabet. I have linked up the site - simply click on the name so that you might read any sort of short story from the huge line-up available. the stories are supposed to be short so that many can be read, quickly. Simply a titillation of talent. Happy reading, and thank you for joining me.
E is for Evangelist
“Hot week in August.” He smiled to himself. “Just
the way we like it.” Surveying the
grounds he approved the tent facing the northwest. At this angle, any evening breeze that might
blow could be caught by the open flaps of the main tent. August was the best and the worst month for a
revival. But, he so loved it!
He loved August revivals.
The crowds got heated up faster.
The refreshment stand nearly always sold out. The men of the crowd joined in much more
quickly after a few trips out to the parking lot to tip from their flasks. The women fanned themselves, billowing their
hair. Birds darted through the tent, showing their young how to bombard an
unsuspecting crowd.
He loved August revivals.
The showmanship had been honed and peak performances were
generated. An appreciative crowd would
invigorate his crew who in turn invigorated the crowd.
He loved August revivals.
The put on an act unrivaled by the Pope!
Nothing like that clown Jimmy Bakker from the 700 club, trying to steal
the gold from people’s teeth. Nothing
like that snob family the Grahams, only catering to the wealthy. No, he put on a show to rival his idol. Benny Hinn!
Now there is showmanship. Benny
Hinn, the ultimate People’s Prophet.
After 39 years that entertainer could still pack a theater, put on a
show, and be adored afterward.
He loved August revivals.

I attended revivals in August as a child. Ugh!
ReplyDeleteGreat story, I can almost feel the sweat and smell the ladies perfumes. Never heard of Benny Hinn before but I'm going to go Google him right now.
